Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi

Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi is a celebrated Ugandan novelist and short story writer, recognized for her rich storytelling and dedication to African narratives. She holds a PhD from Lancaster University and currently resides in Manchester, UK, where she also teaches. Makumbi’s debut novel, Kintu, won the Kwani Manuscript Project in 2013 and was longlisted for the Etisalat Prize in 2014. Her short story, Let’s Tell This Story Properly, won the 2014 Commonwealth Short Story Prize.
Makumbi is deeply committed to writing for Ugandan and African audiences, emphasizing authentic representation and resisting the common trend of tailoring African stories for Western readers.
