Description
Thirteen-year-old Kòkú Akanbi has always felt out of place. Born in Nigeria but raised in the UK, he lives with the pain and limitations of sickle cell anaemia, and has never quite fitted in. On a school trip to the British Museum, things go horribly wrong—Kòkú accidentally unleashes an ancient demon.
His uncle sends him to Olori, the land of his roots, for the summer. There, he discovers magical tribes, deadly tribal wars, and a looming threat: the ruling Ògún tribe wishes to extinguish the night and destroy all the magical creatures that depend on darkness. Because of his heritage—he is the last living descendant of the Olókun tribe, which controls darkness—Kòkú might be the only one who can stop them.
